Alert & warning thresholds

Tune the levels where each warning kicks in. These drive the colours and the harvest verdicts on the dashboard. Defaults are sensible starting points — adjust to your local rules.

🧩 Feature modules

Switch newer capabilities on when you're ready. Everything stays off — and the dashboard works exactly as before — until you enable it here.

Warning starts at
Bloom likely building (orange).

Red-Tide Risk starts at

Rise sensitivity
A jump of this % over baseline bumps the alert up early.

🦠 Warm-water Vibrio (raw-eating)

Elevated above
Warm enough that Vibrio starts to build.
°C
High above
Cook rather than eat raw.

🌧 Rain runoff / contamination

Elevated above
Rain over ~48h (or forecast 24h) that starts to matter.
mm
High above
Heavy rain — beds often close. Echoes ~25 mm/24h closure rules.

🌡 Oyster growth comfort band

Below this, growth slows (too cold).

Optimal up to
Above this, heat/disease stress climbs.

🏛 Official DFFE classification

The official shellfish-sanitation status of each harvesting area. There's no public feed — record what DFFE publishes, and the dashboard shows it with the date you last checked (and nudges when it's stale).

Saldanha Bay
St Helena Bay
Knysna
Algoa Bay (Gqeberha)

🏛 Official DFFE closures & biotoxins

The authoritative safety layer. Satellite chlorophyll only shows how muchalgae is in the water — not whether it's toxic. Record what DFFE's biotoxin programme reports here: a closure or a positive PSP/DSP/ASP result overridesthe satellite verdict and forces “do not harvest”.

Per-area calibration

A multiplier on each area's chlorophyll bands. Below 1 = more sensitive (flags blooms earlier); above 1 = fewer false alarms. Field observations below suggest changes automatically.

🔬 Field observations

Log what you actually see at the water. These ground-truth the satellite: they build the accuracy scoreboard on the dashboard and auto-suggest the calibration above.

🔔 Proactive alerts

Push an early warning when a site's forecast bloom risk crosses a threshold — ahead of the band actually changing — and text the closures to phones. Saved with the button above.

No SMS provider set (TWILIO_* env). Numbers are saved, but texts won't send until one is configured.

👩‍🌾 Grower / supplier portals

Give each farm a private link to report their own water and see their bay's status. Every report they log sharpens the forecast and the calibration — the more eyes on the water, the better.
